Biography
Burcu Nimet Dumlu is a multidisciplinary designer and researcher from Istanbul, currently based in Tokyo. She is a PhD candidate at Istanbul Technical University, Architectural Design Computing Program, and a doctoral student at Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, Embodied Media Project. With a background in architectural design computing, she works across academic research and professional practice, often collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams. Her work explores how human experience is shaped across physical and virtual environments, drawing on cognitive and neuroscientific perspectives, mnemonics in architecture, and narrative environments. Engaging with more-than-human and care-oriented design, she investigates how spaces, technologies, and materials co-constitute experience and afford new forms of ecological and social awareness. Her practice spans extended reality, installations as experiential spaces, and design theories within human–computer interaction, seeking to cultivate environments that not only embody memory and narrative but also foster relations of care across human and nonhuman entities.
