Jeffrey Shaw

Biography
Jeffrey Shaw has been a leading figure in new media art since its emergence from the performance, expanded cinema, and installation paradigms of the 1960s to today’s technology-informed and virtualised forms. In a prolific career, he has pioneered the development of interactive media art in the fields of expanded cinema, virtual and augmented reality, immersive visualisation environments, navigable cinematic systems, and interactive narrative.
Shaw was the founding director of the ZKM Institute for Visual Media Karlsruhe, Germany (1991–2002, founding director of the iCinema Research Center at UNSW Australia (2003–2008) and co-founder of the Applied Laboratory for Interactive Visualization and Research (ALiVE) at City University Hong Kong (2010-2018). Currently, he is Chair Professor of the Hong Kong Baptist University Academy of Visual Arts and Founding Director of the HKBU Visualization Research Centre.
