Biography
Yuko Ishizu is the representative of GEL, based in Tokyo, Japan. She specializes in computational design in architecture and construction, focusing on developing tools that enhance design and building processes. After earning a Master’s degree in Architecture from Kobe University, she received a Swiss Government Scholarship and completed the MAS CAAD program at ETH Zurich.
Returning to Japan, she worked with Takenaka Corporation’s Design Department and in Design Technology at WeWork, before founding GEL. Her expertise spans BIM plugin development and computational tools for design, structure, facilities, and civil engineering. She applies technology with precision—lightweight solutions for simple tasks and robust systems for complex challenges—covering web, iOS, add-ons, and graphical coding.
She is co-author of Parametric Design with Grasshopper and author of Computational BIM with Revit + Dynamo. Beyond practice, she has taught at corporate and academic institutions, and serves on the board of the Architectural Information Society.
